In this course, we will learn the many facets of Microsoft Access 2019. We will learn basic functions, such as database objects, querying a database, and creating reports. We will learn advanced reporting techniques, using Macros, and database design.

Students will:

  • Create a Microsoft Access database.
  • Create a report from a database.
  • Create queries in a database.
  • Maintain a database by using action queries, formatting a datasheet, and sorting records.
  • Create reports and forms.
  • Perform advanced report and form techniques.
  • Create and modify Macros in a database.
  • Demonstrate the use of SQL language.
  • Design a database.

This course prepares a student to take the Microsoft Access 2019 national certification exam.

Course Outline:

Lesson 1: Database Basics

In this first lesson, we will start by learning database basics, including the features of Microsoft Access, opening a database, and properties of databases. This lesson also includes querying a database in order to gather information and exporting data.

Lesson 2: Maintaining a Database and Creating Reports

In this lesson, we will learn maintenance tasks in a database. This includes adding, modifying, and removing data as well as restructuring the database. This lesson will also cover reporting, and how to create reports and forms using the Wizard.

Lesson 3: Advanced Reporting

In this lesson, we will explore more advanced functions, such as using multiple tables to run a query and advanced reporting. Subreports and aggregate functions are topics covered in this lesson.

Lesson 4: Advanced Form Techniques and Macros

In this lesson, we will insert and modify charts, and use more advanced form techniques. We will also work with Macros and how it can assist with reporting and forms.

Lesson 5: Administering Access and Using SQL

In this lesson, we will explore Microsoft Access administrative functions, such as creating custom data types and indexes, and creating templates. We will also learn SQL language, and how it works with Access.

Lesson 6: Database Design

In this last lesson, we will explore how to design a custom database. We will determine the tables and fields needed to fit your purpose, and how to represent the database design with a diagram.
